Inside This House: A Neighbourhood Gallery in the Cotswolds Shaping a Creative Community
"The main thing we want them (the artists) to achieve from their stay is to be able to get a real sense of calm and deep kind of relaxation from an area and an environment that we know and love so much, and has over the years provided us with a lot of calm as well."
Tucked away in the Cotswolds, just outside Stroud, This House is part gallery, part Georgian cottage, and part creative refuge.
Sisters Tash and Katie have created something that feels deeply personal. Growing up in the Five Valleys, they wanted to create a space that reflected their love of art, the landscape and bring together the creative community around Stroud. Alongside exhibitions, they run a residency programme, giving artists time and space to step away from everyday life and make work.
The residency is an important part of the vision, bringing different artists into the house and creating an ongoing exchange between the work, the space and the people who visit.
“A lot of the artists that come have really been able to tap into a sense of something that was subconscious in their work. A lot of people have said that they touched back to something that they were doing when they were much younger or something that they had forgotten that was a part of their practice"
The result is a place that feels intimate and welcoming, rooted in its surroundings but open to new ideas, artists and conversations.
