Considered Craftsmanship: Sam Whyman Furniture
‘It's a natural material and it's got variability and it moves.'
Honouring the natural characteristics of timber, Sam Whyman handcrafts contemporary, fine furniture from his workshop in Fishponds. With a background in industrial design, Sam’s pieces have an architectural quality to them, with his craftsmanship evident in every curve and join.
One of my favourite designs is my chord chair. It's got a lot of different kinds of texture and tactility.
A beautiful example of his work, Sam’s Chord Chair is a modern classic. He describes the design as ‘organic’ yet ‘crisp’, with its gently curving seat and clean silhouette softened by the woven back. Its eye-catching design also serves a practical purpose, offering optimal lumbar support and a relaxing place to rest weary feet.
Sustainability is at the heart of Sam’s designs, with all timber sourced from sustainably managed, local woodlands. From his considered choice of materials through to his construction methods, Sam pieces are gentle on the environment and designed to last.
