The Bronze Extension project exemplifies the power of alignment, materials, and vision. It stands as a testament to the extraordinary results that can be achieved when all the elements come together in perfect harmony, creating a lasting architectural masterpiece that will inspire generations to come.
"The client really challenged us at the beginning of the project to do something which would be truly exciting that posed us with this wonderful opportunity to develop something particularly special."
Sam Goss, Founding Director of Barefoot Architects
Materials: The Essence of Design
Bronze Roof and Timber Soffit: The choice of materials played a pivotal role in shaping the project's identity. The name itself, the "bronze extension", alludes to the central role of materials. Sam Goss explains, "The bronze extension canopy gave us the opportunity to cover the roof with bronze, a kind of amazing material with rich patina and detail. Internally, the soffit is formed from timber that's left beautifully exposed."
Unique Brickwork: In addition, distinctive Danish handmade bricks were selected, despite their challenging installation process. Goss notes, "The details of the brickwork were to use a Danish handmade unusual shaped brick that was harder to lay but beautiful to finish."
"This is a great project because we had alignment of an amazing client, brief, budget, architect, and builder”
Inspiration in Transformation
Design Impact: Barefoot Architects finds inspiration in witnessing the transformation their designs bring to homeowners' lives. Returning to these homes after completion serves as a source of motivation. Goss reflects, "Our aim is to transform the way people live, and to see how we've actually managed to do that is inspiring."
